Vertical Inertial Collectors
A vertical inertial collector is the most common type of cyclone filter used for the centrifugal-gravitational separation of solid particles that are not prone to agglomeration or cementation. This includes mechanical impurities with a particle size greater than 20 µm, as well as solid components in smoke emissions (ash, soot), sparks, and moisture.
- High Collection Efficiency: These cyclones are highly effective at capturing dry dust, chips, shavings, crumbs, granules, fibers, and other agglomerates of medium to large particle sizes. Their design is characterized by relative simplicity, low maintenance requirements, durability, productivity, energy efficiency, and ease and speed of reclaiming the captured filtrate.
- Design Considerations: Despite their external simplicity, the design of this class of devices must account for hydraulic and aerodynamic aspects that influence overall efficiency, productivity, and the phenomenon known as “re-entrainment” (reverse carryover).
- Applications: Cyclone devices are widely used in the metallurgical, chemical, energy, wood processing, mining, and machine-building industries, as well as in grain processing and storage, furniture manufacturing, bulk building materials, fertilizer production, and the food industry within the agricultural sector.
