Purpose
Knife gate valves are used for complete or partial blockage of bulk material flow in various technological lines. They are primarily installed at the outlet pipe of silos, hoppers, or other equipment where bulk materials are stored, transported, and dosed.
Knife Gate Valve Design
A knife gate valve is a sealed device consisting of a main frame and a blade (knife) that moves within it, ensuring complete or partial flow blockage.
The blade moves along precisely guided tracks that can be adjusted to maintain the seal integrity of the knife gate valve.
All standard knife gate valves manufactured by Harmonia-Technofilter feature reliable seals made from modern polymer materials. Custom knife gate valves can be produced with the required passage cross-section and shape. Seals can also be selected by our experienced engineers based on the physical and chemical properties of the material, temperature, and the operating environment of the knife gate valve.
Types of Knife Gate Valves by Actuation
Manual Knife Gate Valve
The blade (knife) is moved by rotating a screw made of special steel with subsequent heat treatment, featuring trapezoidal threading. A convenient handle is used as the drive for the screw, providing the necessary torque to block the material column.
Electric Actuated Knife Gate Valve
A motor reducer, typically a worm or bevel gearbox, is used as the actuator. The power is calculated based on the knife gate valve’s size, the type of material, and the mechanism where the valve is installed. Limit switches are installed inside the frame where no material is present. Optionally, sensors can be added to accurately determine the blade’s position. This setup is used in processes where partial flow blockage is required.
Pneumatic Actuated Knife Gate Valve
A reliable pneumatic cylinder is installed as the actuator for the blade (knife). It can be positioned inside or outside the frame of the knife gate valve. The pneumatic cylinder is selected based on the size of the knife gate valve, operating conditions, and the surrounding environment.
